Bakkerij Vreugdenhil was founded in 1923. Jan Vreugdenhil senior then took over a bakery in Maasdijk. Bakkerij Vreugdenhil is a real family business and the fourth generation is currently active with enthusiastic entrepreneurship. Over the years, much has been renovated at Willem III straat 27. During the last renovation in 2018, the entire building was renovated. New ovens, sustainable cooling systems and a completely renovated store. We are ready for the future. Curious? You’re welcome to come by.
Did you know that our logo is not only the V of Vreugdenhil, but also stands for the generations that are active in the family business? And that the V of our logo goes from small to large? We started small and have grown into the company we are today.
Bakkerij Vreugdenhil is a family business. Father Jan Vreugdenhil has been involved in the bakery trade since 1967 due to his father Cor. Jan married Gerda and she still works in the store. Both sons of Jan and Gerda have followed in their father’s footsteps. The older one, Chris Vreugdenhil, is responsible for the banquet and general management. Chris is married to Linda who also works in the bakery since young age. She leads the store team and takes care of the marketing and social media. The younger son, Gerard Vreugdenhil, is responsible for baking. Gerard is married to Elles, who also works in the bakery. Meanwhile, the fifth generation is born. Ben, Lize and Bram are raised in the bakery.
Although there is no blood tie, the family at Bakkerij Vreugdenhil sometimes seems larger. All enthusiastic employees are closely involved with the company and therefore with the family. Together we work hard to keep the quality high and to be service-oriented to the customers.
Bakkerij Vreugdenhil finds it important to have an eye for its customers. Time for a chat and a listening ear. We approach everyone with a smile and want to ensure that customers leave satisfied. We look forward to seeing familiar faces and new faces every day. Be welcome.
We are proud to say that we can regularly receive groups and show our beautiful shop and bakery. What is so normal to us can be very interesting to others. For example, we give guided tours and workshops to service clubs and associations. We also welcome groups from care homes. There are also schools that are still interested in the baker’s trade, so we would like to show these classes our bakery. After all, that’s the future. Church youth associations and children from group 4 in preparation for the First Holy Communion honor us with an annual visit. When young people need to orientate themselves on their career after high school, we naturally open our doors wide. After all, the new master baker can just walk in through an internship or Westland on Stage! Bakkerij Vreugdenhil also likes to take responsibility for a society in which everyone can play a role. For example, two people with a distance to the labor market work in the bakery.
In the field of sustainability, too, the planet is treated very consciously; there are 220 solar panels on the roof that generate 55,000 kWH and provide the bakery with electricity. For comparison; 100 households can be supplied with energy from this yield. The cooling systems are also energy efficient, which means that CO2 emissions are considerably lower. For example, no Freon is used for cooling and a natural refrigerant has been chosen. Furthermore, the residual heat from the ovens is also used in the bakery; heat that normally flies out of the chimney now finds its way through the entire building. The water is 90 degrees Celsius and heats the tap water, the dishwasher and the proofers, among other things. With this residual heat you could provide approximately 40 households with hot water. For example, applications from greenhouse horticulture are successfully used in our energy-efficient bakery. Finally, the building is well insulated and is lit everywhere by LED lamps, the entire store is lit with LED. To prevent food waste, Bakkerij Vreugdenhil offers products in the app ‘Too good to go’. In this way, users can buy quality products (that are close to the expiry date) at a reduced price.
As a Westland company, you cannot avoid giving something back to society. Whether it concerns large or small organizations, or a large or small contribution; every charity has its value. As Bakkerij Vreugdenhil, we are happy to help where possible, by placing an advertisement or in kind. A small selection of the causes we have supported in recent years: Bingos and bazaars for different local charities, Fietsen voor mijn eten, Hometown Maasland, Bakkerij Vreugdenhil Sportief wandelevenement, Team Westland etc.
Bakkerij Vreugdenhil is the first baker in the Netherlands to have won three stars during the ‘Bakker met Ster’ election. We are the only bakery in the Netherlands that managed to reach this three times in a row. A unique achievement. The ‘Bakker met Ster’ is awarded to traditional bakeries, confectioners or patissiers who distinguish themselves through title achievements in the field of quality, service, organization and customer focus.
